Instead, we\u2019ll observe your child performing different tasks that give us the necessary information. To your child, though, it\u2019s all just playtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are a few examples of how we measure different skills and abilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fine Motor Skills:<\/strong> For general skills, we\u2019ll ask your child to perform age-appropriate craft activities, like stringing beads or coloring. If handwriting is a concern, we\u2019ll ask your child to write something for us as a sample.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gross Motor Skills<\/strong><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">\u00a0are movements that use the whole body. To evaluate them, we might play\u00a0<\/span>catch or ask your child to complete a fun, simple obstacle course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sensory Input:<\/strong> We\u2019ll provide simple, \u201cdisguised\u201d tests to see how your child reacts to sensory stimuli. Unfortunately, parents have to do a bit more work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll ask you to complete a lengthy questionnaire that asks questions about your child\u2019s behavior at home, school, or in other social settings. It will also ask about developmental milestones (such as when your child said their first word or took their first step), so bring those dates with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be as honest and accurate as possible in the questionnaire\u2013this information is as essential to your child\u2019s assessment as the observational tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The length of the assessment will vary depending on what we\u2019re testing, but you can expect to be with us for at least a few hours.
