ATHLETIC TRAINERS: YOUR PARTNER ON THE SIDELINE
Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals with a specific focus on sports medicine. They possess a comprehensive understanding of the human body, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and emergency care within the athletic realm. Think of them as your sideline stewards, dedicated to:
- Injury Assessment and Evaluation: Athletic trainers assess sports injuries, identify their severity, and determine appropriate treatment plans. They work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals when necessary.
- Rehabilitation and Recovery: From sprains and strains to more complex injuries, athletic trainers design and implement personalized rehabilitation programs to help athletes regain strength, flexibility, and full function.
- Injury Prevention Strategies: Athletic trainers don’t just treat injuries; they work to prevent them. They implement injury prevention protocols like flexibility training, strengthening exercises, and proper movement techniques.
- Performance Optimization: Athletic trainers can analyze an athlete’s movement patterns, identify weaknesses, and create tailored programs to enhance performance and efficiency.
Services Provided
- Athletic training room responsibilities and event coverage for practice, games and tournaments
- Return-to-play guidance
- Youth sports injury prevention strategies, evaluation and rehabilitation (acute and chronic)
- Sports-related concussion evaluation and management
- Baseline and post-concussion testing
- Liaison between physicians, athletic director, coaches, parents and student athletes
- Assist with implementation and design of emergency action plans for student athletes
- CPR/AED training
